We hope this is the first of many "The Newest National" segments this off-season!

Meet Clay Helvey:

  • Signed a minor-league deal with the Nats on Nov 9, with an invite to spring training. 

  • Drafted in 2018 by the San Francisco Giants in the 22nd round as a relief pitcher 

  • Is 27 years old and attended the University of Tampa 

  • Career ERA is 4.94, ended 2024 with a 4.96 ERA 

  • Has never reached the majors but gives the Nats a low-risk option for their organizational pitching depth.
